We provide professional German to English translation services, multilingual SEO and international marketing support tailored to your requirements, brand and customers.
Subject Areas
We offer marketing, web, academic and technical translations in a wide variety of fields, including tourism, engineering and medicine amongst many others. We do not offer certified translations.
Language Pairs
We focus on German-English translation and can work into British or American English. Our translations are always carried out by native English speakers. English proofreading is also offered.
Our Translators
We are Jenny and Paul, a British-American couple living in Innsbruck, Austria. We founded Barlinn Translations in 2011 to help local tourism businesses share the beauty of Tirol with international audiences, and our business has grown from there. Today, we work with many long-standing clients to deliver high-quality translations across a wide range of industries.
We work closely with every client to understand your brand, your terminology and the way you communicate with your audience. Combined with our cultural insight gained from years of living in the UK, the USA, Austria and Germany, this enables us to deliver hard-hitting translations that are precise, effective, culturally aware and consistent over time.
Cultural Understanding
Even a completely accurate translation can fail if it doesn't take into account who the audience is and how they will interpret the information.
Do your international visitors know that swimwear is generally not permitted in Austrian saunas? Or that an Austrian twin would actually be called a double bed in many other cultures? Or that shops are often closed here on Sundays?
We understand that good translation is not just about converting words from one language into another. It is equally important to ensure that the message makes sense within the cultural expectations and assumptions of the people reading it.
Timings
We deliver translations quickly and are happy to work to your schedule. However, we don’t rush our translations for short-term deadlines because we never compromise on quality.
Pricing
Our translations start from € 1.30 per standard line (55 characters). Prices include proofreading by a second native speaker and content customisation for your target market.
Editing and Proofreading
We are happy to proofread or edit your texts. This service is priced the same as our standard translation service as it is often just as time consuming.
Automated Translations, Translation Tools and AI
Automated translations and AI are storming the translation industry. The mistakes are sometimes still staggering but these are occuring less and less frequently. I would even go as far as to say that automated translation tools and AI platforms can be perfectly sufficient for certain day-to-day translations, as long as your language ability is sufficient to sense-check the translation yourself. However, texts generated by AI are still a far cry from human translations and carefully crafted marketing texts. An AI doesn't create the same kind of consistency across your products and materials that a professional translator will acheive. An AI can tie itself in knots and will guess if it doesn't know. But most importantly, and AI translation still won't capture the voice and nuance of your message to a high standard. If you are investing in tailoring and tweaking your German texts, social media campaigns and online presence, don't cut corners for your multilingual materials and expect them to match quality wise. Maybe in five years, but we're not there yet.
We use all of the latest tools for our translations. This includes using AI and automated translation services as a research tool, but also relies on human insight, emotional connections, translation software and our knowledge of cultural differences and the local area, drawing on our experience of living in English and German speaking cultures.
